Crown Ether‐Functionalized Complex Emulsions as an Artificial Adaptive Material Platform

نویسندگان

چکیده

Responsive materials capable of autonomously regulating and adapting to molecular recognition-induced chemical events hold great promise in the design artificial chemo-intelligent life-like soft material platforms. In this context, a synthetically minimal emulsion platform that, regulated by interfacial supramolecular recognition events, is reversibly adapt its environment reported. The systems exhibit programmed up- down-regulating capabilities that are realized via selective assembly synthesized crown ether surfactants onto one hemisphere anisotropic biphasic droplets. Dynamic reversible host–guest complexation of, for example, metal ammonium ions or amino acids transduce into interface-triggered morphological reconfigurations complex droplets, which mediate their ability selectively present, hide, expand liquid–liquid interfaces. separate responsive modalities then used showcase utility such adaptive platforms self-regulated uptake release phase-transfer catalysts, biomimetic biomolecules including acids, carbohydrates, antibodies, triggered surface-encoded payload applications.

NEW MEDIA AS MATERIAL CONSTRAINT An Introduction to Platform Studies

We introduce platform studies, a family of approaches to digital media. In platform studies, close consideration is given to the detailed technical workings of computing systems. This allows the connections between platform technologies and creative production to be investigated. Two short studies of the Atari VCS (2600) and the Nintendo Wii show how close consideration of this sort can inform ...

Urdar - an artificial ecology platform

Cross-feeding interactions are a common feature of many microbial systems, such as colonies of E. coli grown on a single limiting resource. We have studied this phenomenon in Gerlee and Lundh (2010) from an abstract point of view by considering artificial organisms which metabolise binary strings from a shared environment. The organisms are represented as simple cellular automaton rules and the...

Blood substitutes Artificial oxygen carriers: perfluorocarbon emulsions

Perfluorocarbon emulsions are being clinically evaluated as artificial oxygen carriers to reduce allogeneic blood transfusions or to improve tissue oxygenation. Perfluorocarbon emulsions are efficacious in animal experiments, and in humans they are well tolerated and at least as successful to reverse physiologic transfusion triggers than autologous blood. Perfluorocarbon emulsions may be used i...
